Zim - A Desktop Wiki

Properties

The property dialog allows you to modify notebook properties. You can open the properties dialog using the "File->Properties" menu item. It is also shown when you edit or add a notebook in the "Open notebook" dialog.

Notebook properties

The Name is used for identifying this notebook when you have multiple notebooks opened.

The Directory field shows the directory where the notes are stored. This is usually not editable unless you are configuring a new notebook.

The Document Root is a directory used to lookup files that are linked from the wiki. If this property is set any file linked as "/foo.txt" will be looked for in this directory instead of in the file system root. If you use this setting you still can link files in an absolute way using the "file://" syntax. See also: attaching files.

The Icon property can be used to use a custom icon for this notebook.

You can set Home page to the page you want to use as default start page for this notebook.

The Slow file system option can be used if the directory where the pages are saved is for example on a remote file system. If this option is enabled caching will be done in the your home directory instead of in the notebook directory. Also the auto-save function will use the home directory for intermediate saving and only synchronizes with the notebook directory when you navigate away from the page.

The Auto-save version on close option can be used when VersionControl is enabled. With this option "Save Version" is called automatically every time zim is closed. Keep in mind that when the TrayIcon plugin is enabled notebooks are not closed until you select "Quit".

Page properties

The page properties tab shows the source format, the creation date and the modification date of the page.

The source format shows the syntax that is used to store the page source. The default is "text/x-zim-wiki" for the wiki syntax.

The creation date shows the timestamp the creation of this page. If it is set to "unknown" the page was either created with an older version of zim or an external editor. The modification date just shows the last time the page was saved.
